Seven Candidates File for National Board of Directors

National Headquarters - February 1, 2010

Seven Sigma Tau Gamma brothers declared their candidacy for election to the Board of Directors. Candidates for the Board must file a declaration form with the Fraternity’s Executive Vice President by January 31, in the year of a Grand Chapter meeting.  The 44th Grand Chapter meeting will be held August 5-8, 2010 at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel, Cleveland, Ohio.

Greg Rumpf, Beta ’79 (Truman State University) and Thomas Morgan, Phi ’85 (Southeastern Louisiana University) have declared their candidacy for President-elect. Delegates at the 44th Grand Chapter will elect one of these brothers to the office of national president for the term 2012 - 2014. The elected brother will first serve in the office of President-elect during the 2010 – 2012 term. Our current President-elect, Richard Harguindeguy, Beta Omicron ’78 (Northland College) will be installed as the 36th National President at the closing banquet of the 44th Grand Chapter. He will succeed Jeff Russo, Delta Xi ’88 (Carnegie Mellon University) our current national president.

The 44th Grand Chapter will also elect four members-at-large to the Fraternity’s national Board of Directors. Candidates for president-elect are automatically declared candidates for the member-at-large office as well. Five brothers have declared their candidacy for the office of member-at-large of the Board of Directors. They are Alyx Parker, Alpha Chi ’97 (University of Illinois), Jonathan Proehl, Gamma Nu ’99 (UW-River Falls), Jim Johnston, Delta Xi ’01 (Carnegie Mellon University), Michael Ray, Beta Gamma ’01 (Youngstown State University) and Zac Garner, Delta Tau ’05 (Indiana State University).

Sigma Tau Gamma boasts an open election process. Most other fraternities offer a slate of officers created by a nominating committee that is endorsed at their conventions. The Grand Chapter, through its official Procedures, protects our Fraternity from inappropriate campaigning.

The Declaration Form filed by each candidate contains the information our delegates need to know about each candidate. Each delegate will receive a copy of all of these forms well in advance of the elections. Delegates will also have the opportunity to meet the candidates at the Grand Chapter and to hear from the candidates at the Candidate Forum just prior to the elections.

All of these candidates are offering their service to the Fraternity in an important leadership role.  Officers on the Board of Directors are volunteers. They receive no compensation for their service. All of these candidates deserve the respect and admiration of all brothers.
